An August Afternoon | Little things for little time

Coming home from school, work or uni it's hard to fit in nice activities out doors into our busy lives these days. So as we begin August - our last of month of winter here in Australia - time is almost up for waking up at 6 am only to find it feels as though its midnight due to the lack of sunlight. In order to spend this time wisely before the country turns into a sauna, I've made a list of some little things you can do to brighten your day in the time we have in the hustle and bustle of life. So here are to the rest of your August afternoons!

Go for lots of walks: Honestly walking in the sun bugs me at times. It gets hot and glarey and I'd rather be inside to be honest... That's the greatest thing about these chilly months! The other day I'd been cooped up inside doing assignments and at least 8 hours of staring at my computer screen, i decided to go for a walk. Best. decision. ever! It is such a great distraction, and just being outside, moving, watching the world pass by was so relaxing and grounding.


Have a picnic: Winter (or autumn) would have to be some of the best picnic seasons. Sure you can have a picnic any day, but I love having picnics in cooler weather. The sun is wanted and not a bother. Most park locations will be less occupied than in summer or spring, so finding a nice spot is a lot easier! I would have to say a picnic by the seaside is where my heart lies, but parks or lookouts such as Mt Gravatt or Mt Koot-tha are great locations.


Watch the sunrise or sunset: Because it's winter, our hours of daylight are shorter. As the sun rises earlier, it's easier to catch a glimpse of such a magical time without needing to wake up before 4 am. And every day is different! Whether it's pink and orange skies, or purple and blue - it will amaze you.


Hug someone & smile every day: I have nothing else to say. Hugging cures stress and instills happiness within us without even trying. And as for smiling, just do it. It can make someones day with extremely little effort on your behalf.

The Races

It almost that time of year where we watch 4 legged things go round in a circle and get super dressed up to do so. It's both super exciting and super nerve racking. Choosing the perfect outfit isn't as easy as it looks. We have a lot to consider!! The hair, the make up, the dress, the accessories, the shoes.... and the list goes on. We're here to make all those decisions slightly easier by showing you our favourite race day looks.

August Inspiration

August, when you can see the sun on the horizon. Winter is quickly coming to an end and we're thinking of when we can switch our jeans to shorts. I've compiled a list of my 'musts' for this month. These are some of my all time favourite that I hope inspire your august.

What to Watch: Love Actually. Lets be honest we've all probably seen this movie and if you haven't go watch it ... if you have go watch it again!!!! No movie has ever made me feel happier. It's my go to movie and probably always will be. It might be the fact it's set in England and brings back all my childhood memories or maybe it's that its set at Christmas and who doesn't feel happy at Christmas or it may even be the fact that it's bursting with love from start to end. It's probably all 3!!

What to Read: 14 000 Reasons To Be Happy. This is one of my favourite books ever! I try to read at least a page of this book a day. When I wake up it always makes me smile and honestly there is no better way to start your day. For a little more inspiration, I created my own list. I bought a journal and wrote My Own Personal 14000 things to be happy about.

What to Do: EKKA. People of Brisbane it's that time of the year again. When we all get sick and spend too much money on show bags and rides. It's such a great event. I love the food, the animals the rides, everything!! I think this year I'm most excited about the Ekka day races. I've bought my dress and I'm all set for an amazing day, looking fab with a drink in my hand!

What to Listen to: Jason Derulo "The Other Side". This song has recently made its way back into my life and I can't stop replying it! In the car, at home, in my head, it's always there. It's perfect to dance to, and lets face it who doesn't love dancing in the room (or like us in the car). Make sure you give this a listen, it's so uplifting. I Love It!

What to Wear: A Coat. We've been all about the coats lately, I think they've been in every post. Ooops, haha. But they're perfect, they should be in every post and we're running out of time to wear them. It's the last month of winter and before we know it we'll be wearing our swimmers laying on the tiled floor in the air con. Make sure you get as much wear out of you're super cute coats as you can before we have to pack them away for another year.
